Want to be part of something big?

ING NYC Marathon 2009First held in 1970, the ING NYC marathon is the largest marathon in the world! Its course runs through all five NYC boroughs and makes for a unique way to tour New York. The marathon attracts many professional competitors, as well as amateur runners from different parts of the world. The energetic atmosphere and the unbeatable bragging-rights associated with participating attract more than 90,000 applicants from all over the world every year.

The marathon not only offers $600,000 in prize money, but also grants participants the honor of being cheered on by close to two million spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers. Because of its popularity, the race has a limit of 37,000 participants, most of whom are chosen by a lottery system. Guaranteed entry options are available only to the officially recognized running clubs, such as the NYRR, athletes who have completed 15 or more New York City Marathons, and those who run for one of the selected charitable organizations.

Where will your money go?

facial surgery: before and afterThe Russian Children’s Welfare Society is dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children in Russia, namely orphans, impoverished children with limited resources, and those with medical needs that are not being remedied either by their families or by the State. The $2,500 that you raise will be put towards funding reconstructive surgery for a child with severe facial deformities. There is currently a long waiting list at the Moscow Center for Children’s Maxillofacial Surgery. Additionally, $10,000 can cover a minivan for an orphanage in a rural area, providing kids with an opportunity to visit distant educational, cultural and/or medical facilities.

What are the participation requirements?

By the NYRR rules, each RCWS runner must commit to raising a minimum of $2,500 for our organization. Starting your own fundraiser is simple. Click here for tips and tools on how to get started.
