2011 Petroushka Ball

Maija Kovalevska and Piotr BeczalaThis year, over 700 guests crowded the Grand Ballroom and Jade Room of the Waldorf=Astoria for the Russian Children's Welfare Society's highly anticipated and beloved event, the Petroushka Ball. Now in its 46th year, the Petroushka Ball flourished into the grand affair it is today after having its start as a small fundraising tea dance in 1965.

The night commenced with dinner and a marvelous set of performances from the stunning soprano and lead in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "La Boheme,' Maija Kovalevska, and renowned tenor Piotr Beczala, who also performed alongside Maija in "La Boheme" as Rodolfo.

Barynya Balalaika OrchestraThe fete resumed with the music of the Lester Lanin Orchestra, under the baton of Spencer Bruno, as well as with the sounds of the Barynya Balalaika Orchestra. One of the Petroushka Ball sponsors, esteemed Italian car manufacturer Maserati, put on display a GranTurismo Convertible for the duration of the night, an elegantly dazzling automobile that attracted much attention from the female revelers who nimbly and gracefully tested out the seats notwithstanding their flowing ball gowns. This year's sponsors included Alfa-Banking Group, Deutsche Bank, Damiani, Pomega5, Estee Lauder, Transaero, Mari Vanna, Loeb Partners Realty LLC, and Confident Care Corp, all of whom profoundly contributed in making the Ball a memorable success.

Net proceeds from the 46th Petroushka Ball will be distributed across the spectrum of RCWS's programs.
