The 51st Petroushka Ball drew over 700 guests for a spirited night of celebration on February 5th, 2016 at The Plaza Hotel in New York. Both longstanding supporters and newcomers toasted to the Russian Children’s Welfare Society’s 90th birthday and rejoiced in the night’s festivities.
The Ball was not only a uniquely elegant affair but also a surprisingly electric one, with traditional Russian and gypsy dances going well into the morning hours to the sound of vibrant folk and balalaika music. Among the highlights of the night was a set of performances from Metropolitan Opera’s baritone Rodion Pogossov and soprano Olga Mykytenko. Rodion delighted guests with a theatrical rendition of the song Soliloquy from Carousel in addition to a riveting piece from Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Olga dazzled with an aria from Pagliacci and a Tchaikovsky’s romance before joining forces with Rodion for a stirring duet from Pagliacci. Read more
Among the highlights of the night was a beautiful performance by Metropolitan Opera soloist Olga Makarina and a medal of honor bestowed upon RCWS President Beatrice Fekula by Igor L. Golubovskiy, Consul General of the Russian Federation in New York in honor of Vladimir Fekula for his commitment to helping disadvantaged Russian children. Read more

The Society was extremely fortunately to have both Olga Borodina and her husband Ildar Abdrazakov, two of the leading opera stars in the world, graciously perform during dinner in supporting the charitable activities of RCWS. Both have leading roles in the Metropolitan Opera’s revival of Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, which opened on February 27th to stunning reviews. Yelena Kurdina accompanied on the piano. Read more
The night commenced with dinner and a marvelous set of performances from the stunning soprano and lead in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "La Boheme", Maija Kovalevska, and renowned tenor Piotr Beczala, who also performed alongside Maija in "La Boheme" as Rodolfo. Read more
45th Petroushka Ball took place on January 29th, 2010 at the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria in New York. Over 600 guests attended the event. Proceeds generated by the Ball will fund scholarship programs for Russian orphans and benefit at-risk children in Russia.
During the dinner, there were great performances by Diana Damrau, a soprano from the Metropolitan Opera and Kate Lindsey a mezzo-Soprano also from the Metropolitan Opera. Brian Zeger was playing the piano and other music was playing for this Dancing and Cabaret exquisite event.
