51th Petroushka Ball

Metropolitan Opera’s baritone Rodion Pogossov and soprano Olga MykytenkoThe 51st Petroushka Ball drew over 700 guests for a spirited night of celebration on February 5th, 2016 at The Plaza Hotel in New York. Both longstanding supporters and newcomers toasted to the Russian Children’s Welfare Society’s 90th birthday and rejoiced in the night’s festivities.

The Ball was not only a uniquely elegant affair but also a surprisingly electric one, with traditional Russian and gypsy dances going well into the morning hours to the sound of vibrant folk and balalaika music. Among the highlights of the night was a set of performances from Metropolitan Opera’s baritone Rodion Pogossov and soprano Olga Mykytenko. Rodion delighted guests with a theatrical rendition of the song Soliloquy from Carousel in addition to a riveting piece from Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Olga dazzled with an aria from Pagliacci and a Tchaikovsky’s romance before joining forces with Rodion for a stirring duet from Pagliacci. Read more

 Metropolitan Opera soloist Olga MakarinaThe 50th Anniversary of the Petroushka Ball saw a record number of attendees (over 800) and was a spirited night of celebration with both RCWS’s longstanding supporters and newcomers.

Among the highlights of the night was a beautiful performance by Metropolitan Opera soloist Olga Makarina and a medal of honor bestowed upon RCWS President Beatrice Fekula by Igor L. Golubovskiy, Consul General of the Russian Federation in New York in honor of Vladimir Fekula for his commitment to helping disadvantaged Russian children. Read more

Anna Netrebko and Bradley MooreAfter a hiatus of seven years, the Petroushka Ball returned to the Plaza Hotel’s beautiful and intimate Grand Ballroom on February 8, 2013. A seven inch snowstorm did not deter some 300 dinner guests and 200 after-dinner guests, in the Terrace Room, from enjoying an event filled evening.

Metropolitan Opera Star and Honorary Director of RCWS, Anna Netrebko, made her fourth appearance at the Petroushka Ball and was spellbinding. Pianist Bradley Moore was the outstanding accompanist. Read more

47th Petroushka Ball

W.Fekula, O.Borodina and I.AbdrazakovOn Friday, February 10, 2012, the Russian Children’s Welfare Society held its 47th annual Petroushka Ball at the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, New York City.

The Society was extremely fortunately to have both Olga Borodina and her husband Ildar Abdrazakov, two of the leading opera stars in the world, graciously perform during dinner in supporting the charitable activities of RCWS. Both have leading roles in the Metropolitan Opera’s revival of Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, which opened on February 27th to stunning reviews. Yelena Kurdina accompanied on the piano. Read more

46th Petroushka Ball

Piotr Beczala and Maija KovalevskaThis year, over 700 guests crowded the Grand Ballroom and Jade Room of the Waldorf=Astoria for the Russian Children's Welfare Society's highly anticipated and beloved event, the Petroushka Ball.

The night commenced with dinner and a marvelous set of performances from the stunning soprano and lead in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "La Boheme", Maija Kovalevska, and renowned tenor Piotr Beczala, who also performed alongside Maija in "La Boheme" as Rodolfo. Read more


45th Petroushka Ball

Diana Damrau and Kate Lindsey45th Petroushka Ball took place on January 29th, 2010 at the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria in New York. Over 600 guests attended the event. Proceeds generated by the Ball will fund scholarship programs for Russian orphans and benefit at-risk children in Russia.

During the dinner, there were great performances by Diana Damrau, a soprano from the Metropolitan Opera and Kate Lindsey a mezzo-Soprano also from the Metropolitan Opera. Brian Zeger was playing the piano and other music was playing for this Dancing and Cabaret exquisite event.
